PBR HEADS TO HUGHENDEN

(August 31, 2012) Elite bull riders from around the nation are getting ready to converge on the Hughenden Racecourse for the Southern Cross Austereo Hughenden Bull Ride Sanctioned by Professional Bull Riders (PBR)  this Saturday night in what is shaping up to be one of the best events yet.

The Hughenden committee have stepped up the production this year with a huge 30 square metre big screen to catch all the action, showing footage from behind the screens, replays and the high impact PBR clips that set the electrifying atmosphere.   There is plenty for the kids with a comedy entertainer and Pyrotechnics that will also add to the excitement.

Hughenden is the second event of the new season and all the riders are keen to get a strong start and with the $10,000 prize money on offer a win here could position them to qualify for the November Cup Series which will include the PBR Troy Dunn Invitational at the Townsville Entertainment Centre on the 17th November.

This event will be special with 2012 PBR Australian Champion Dave Kennedy from Kyogle NSW making his final appearance on the tour before jetting off to the USA to take up a position on the elite BFTS televised tour.

Kennedy will have to face a field of 39 hungry bull riders lead by Kiwi cowboy Fraser Babbington who won the Hughenden event in 2011 with a 90 point ride in the Championship Round.  Not to be overlooked will be Charters Towers Champion Jock Connolly, and NSW’s Troy Wilkinson.

The event will also mark a memorable occasion with the announcement that one of the animal athlete legends of our sport will be retired.  Blackall’s Bomber Baillie has decided to retire the 2009 PBR Australia Champion Bucking Bull Wild Thing and Hughenden will be where he makes his final trip.  This seven year old bull has delivered so many memorable performances on our tour with 90 point rides and spectacular buck offs on his wrap sheet.  Wild Thing will retire to a paddock of cows to produce more champions, one of his calves Bad Thing will be performing along-side him in Hughenden.  We congratulate the Baillie family on retiring his great bull when he is still at the top of his game.

Clermont based bull contractor Darren Brandenburg will join the Baillie Rodeo Company to deliver an extremely tough pen of bulls for this competition. Star bulls like Big Brian, Jabberwockeez, Speed Dial & Pac man are just a select few bulls that will be on show in the final and deciding Championship Round.

If big bulls, brave riders and edge of your seat entertainment weren’t enough, the Hughenden event will feature massive big screen, chest-thumping sound system and pyrotechnics can only be described as “The Toughest Sport on Dirt” and an event not to be missed.

Discounted tickets can be pre purchased through the Flinders Discovery Centre.

More bang, more buck, Buckle Up with the PBR.
