LOWE DOMINATES IN MARAYLA NSW
New South Wales Bull Riding fans were treated to a night of bull riding highs and lows at the inaugural Bad Boy Mowers Touring Pro Series event at the Marayla Horseworld Indoor Arena on Saturday night.
The first two rounds of the competition were dominated by the bull power from Matt Besant, George Hempenstall and Mitch Russell Bucking Bulls and it wasn’t until rounds 3 and 4 that the bull riders found their form, delivering the crowd one great ride after another. New South Wales bull rider, Chris Lowe delivered an impressive 88.5 score aboard the Besant owned Rattlehead to position himself in the number one position going into the Championship Round with Trefor Sproule second with an 88 on Russell’s Navaho and Mick Ford third with an 86.5 aboard Hollywood Boulevard. In total 15 riders made the whistle in the long round with the top 10 scorers progressing into the Championship Round.
One of the low points of the long round was when Damien Harden produced an 85 point score only to break his ankle after dismounting the bull and was rushed to hospital and underwent surgery on the Sunday night.
The Championship round was stacked with ten great riders and 10 of the best bulls in the competition making it a great finale to the night. Only 3 bull riders would deliver scores in the final round with veteran bull rider, Brett Hanrahan being the first rider to make the whistle with an 86.5 point score aboard Hempenstall’s “Maximum Destruction” giving him the overall lead in the competition. Richard Treanor then produced a great ride with an 85.5 point score aboard Besant’s “Dodge City” positioning him half a point behind Hanrahan. It all came down to the last bull ride of the night with the match-up between the inform Chris Lowe and the legendary bull Hectic. The quiet achiever Lowe is one of the most consistent bull riders on the tour and he again proved that he is one of the contenders for this year’s Australian Title by making the 8 second whistle and scoring 87 points to secure the Championship round and overall event win, placing him in a great position for the upcoming Cup Series National Finals at Allphones Arena on July 21st.
Overall we were very pleased with the result of the Horseworld Event for its inaugural year, stated PBR General Manager, Glen Young. The crowd came from all over NSW and it can only grow and get bigger from here. The PBR/XXXX Community Program raised over $1500 for the “If It Feels Good, Do It Charity Ute Show” who also need to be commended for their effort and support in making this a great event as well as attracting so many great utes and owners from around the state.
Establishing an event in a new location is always a difficult process, however we had great support from our local sponsors, the Bad Boy Mower Crew backed us all the way and were the ones that convinced us to bring the event to the area, they also delivered some great half time entertainment with their demonstration as did country music sensation Jayne Denham, who wowed the audience with some of her hit songs.
The PBR Touring Pro Series now heads to Darwin as the nation’s best bull riders strive for the top 14 positions for the July 21st Sydney Allphones Arena National Finals.
