2010 PROFESSIONAL BULL RIDERS NATIONAL FINALS
TAMWORTH, NSW
NOVEMBER 26 & 27, 2010

Goulburn’s “Dancing Ben Jones” Takes First Blood in PBR Finals
The greatest show on Australia’s bull riding calendar, the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) National Finals, kicked off tonight in Tamworth with the most colourful character in the sport, Ben Jones taking first blood with two magnificent rides and some equally impressive victory dancing.
On a night when an amazing pen of bucking bulls had the better of their human opponents, Jones stood tall, as the only man to make the eight-second hooter on two bulls.
Thirty-one-year-old Jones from Goulburn, NSW kicked off his night with an equal roundhigh score of 88 points on Dunne Bucking Bulls’ Walkin Tall. With the adrenalin still pumping through his veins, Jones climbed aboard L&M Rodeo Company’s Tough Hombre in the championship round and rode the beast for 86.5 points to seal his victory.
Taking second place for the night was the smallest man on the PBR Australia circuit, Jason Mara from Rockhampton, Queensland. Mara set the stadium alight when he rode George Hempenstall’s 700kg bundle of muscle, Lab Rat, for the evening’s highest score of 90.5 points.
Rounding out the podium spots was Wagga Wagga’s Rhys Angland, with a dominant ride on a Hempenstall bull by the name of Vold.
The top positions in the race for the 2010 PBR championship remain unchanged after tonight’s results with the five highest placed riders in the Australian standings all bucking off. Reigning champ and 2010 standings leader David Kennedy took a heavy fall in the first round when he landed on his head and was momentarily stunned. Kennedy came back in the final round and has declared himself a certain starter for tomorrow night as he strives to become PBR Australia’s first ever back-to-back champion.
Held over two nights at Tamworth’s world-class livestock events facility, the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC), the 2010 PBR National Finals pits a selection of the world’s top-ranked professional bull riders from the United State’s elite Built Ford Tough Series against 25 of Australia’s bravest athletes.
With the nation’s fiercest beasts and the world’s toughest athletes combined with rock concert-style music, lighting and pyrotechnics, monster video screens for instant replays and the wall-to-wall excitement of a PBR show, the 2010 PBR National Finals is one sporting event not to be missed.
