Queensland Cowboy Steals NSW Thunder in Luddenham
Queensland cowboy Matt Postle stole the limelight from a stellar cast of bull riding superstars at the Luddenham Showgrounds on Saturday night, when he put together two magnificent 8- second efforts to take out the inaugural Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Challenger Series Luddenham.
In front of a crowd of more than 2500 bull riding fans, PBR world number fourteen Ben Jones (Goulburn, NSW) headlined the strongest line up of cowboys to assemble for a PBR Challenger Series event this season. Fresh from his efforts in the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jones was joined in Luddenham by fellow Vegas finalists Jason O’Hearn (Rothbury, NSW), Pete Farley (Kempsey, NSW) and David Kennedy (Kyogle, NSW).
It was Matt Postle, however, who stepped up on the night with a pair of tough, gritty bull rides. Twenty-five-year-old Postle, from Mundubbera, Qld, came into the Luddenham event in eighth place on the PBR Australia season standings, determined to make the most of this second last event before the PBR Australia National Finals.
While Postle’s first round ride on George Hempenstall’s bull Hardrock, went to the 8-second hooter, his score of 80.5 points was only enough to land him in seventh place leading into the championship round. Fortune was on Postle’s side though, drawing Hempenstall’s exhilarating little bull Lab Rat for the championship round and he delivered with an eventhigh score of 89 points. The victory moves Matt Postle to fifth on the PBR Australia leader board.
Second place in Luddenham went to PBR Australia’s reigning champion David Kennedy. Twenty-six-year-old Kennedy covered his first round bull for 78.5 points before going the eight second journey on 2008 PBR Champion bull Sid Vicious for 85.5 points. Kennedy’s Luddenham result means he stretches his lead in the 2010 PBR Australia championship, with only one more event (Cunnamulla on November 13) before the finals. Clayton Russell from Wagga Wagga put together a round-high score of 87 points in the first round to clinch third place, followed by veteran Queenslander Saras Ramsay in fourth and young gun Troy Wilkinson from the Upper Horton, NSW in fifth.
The Professional Bull Riders excitement machine now moves to Cunnamulla Qld for the final round of this year’s series. Gates at Cunnamulla’s John Kerr Park open at 5pm with bull riding from 7pm.
With Australia’s rankest bulls, finest bull riders and the edge-of-your-seat excitement of a PBR show, the Cunnamulla Fella Festival PBR Challenger Series is one bull ride not to be missed. This is not a rodeo – this is the one and only PBR!
