Kempsey Bull Rider Does Aussies Proud In World Finals

Kempsey Bull Rider Does Aussies Proud In World Finals

Kempsey cowboy Pete Farley today did the rich history of his bull riding family proud, finishing tenth overall on the sport’s ultimate stage, the 2010 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Held over five nights (October 20-24) the 2010 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals took place at the Thomas & Mack Centre on the University of Las Vegas campus. Brazilian Renato Nunes won the 2010 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, was crowned 2010 PBR World Champion and walked away from the Thomas & Mack centre US$1,250,000 richer.

For Australia though, it was Pete Farley who starred. One of five Aussies competing amongst a field of 53 bull riders over the five nights in Las Vegas, Pete Farley rode some of the fiercest bovines on the planet and finished the weekend with more than $20,000 in prize money. Having made the finals due to strong performances on the PBR Touring Pro circuit, the youngest of the bull-riding Farley brothers showed yet again that he is a big game player, pulling out all stops to make three qualified rides from six attempts.

The week started well for Farley, making the eight-second hooter in the first round for a score of 88.25 points on a bull called Wish This. The ride saw him split fifth position for the round with American Ryan McConnell.

While rounds two and three weren’t kind to the young New South Welshman, he was once again back in the money in round four, with a stirring 89-point effort on a massive beast called Back Bender. The score saw Farley split third place for the round and regain some vital confidence.

Sunday Las Vegas time saw the bull riders enter the Thomas & Mack Centre with one round to complete before the top fifteen progressed through to the championship round. Pete Farley drew a bull called Deja Blu and rode the beast for 88.75 points and a share of second place for  he round. While he bucked off in the championship round, Farley managed to snare tenth place overall, a stunning result considering he was up against the very best athletes and animals in the bull riding world.

The New South Wales Hunter Valley was also well represented with Morpeth’s Brendon Clark capping off a strong comeback year by finishing 22nd and Rothbury rider Jason O’Hearn finishing 28th in his first trip to the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals.

All three riders, along with Goulburn’s Ben Jones and Kyogle’s David Kennedy who also competed in Las Vegas, will be back in Australia for the 2010 PBR National Finals in Tamworth on November 26 and 27.

With the nation’s fiercest beasts and the world’s toughest athletes combined with rock concert-style music, lighting and pyrotechnics, monster video screens for instant replays and the wall-to-wall excitement of a PBR show, the 2010 PBR National Finals is one sporting event not to be missed.
