North Qld Bull Rider Hits Hot Form Leading Into Ingham

North Queensland bull rider Budd Williamson has found his top form just in time for this Saturday night’s Toyo Tires PBR Challenger Series Ingham.
Williamson, who lives just 200km south of Ingham in Ayr, north Queensland, made a miraculous comeback from a four month lay-off on the weekend, taking out the PBR Challenger Series Condobolin.
Twenty-four-year-old Williamson was forced to undergo wrist surgery to correct a chronic injury but leapt straight back into the winner’s circle with two tough, determined rides in Condobolin. With the nation’s top bull riders heading to Ingham for a shot at the $10,000 prize purse, Budd Williamson will wave the north Queensland flag, along with Charters Towers’ veteran Jock Connolly and Townsville’s John Robbins.
The battle for the 2010 title race also comes into focus this Saturday night. Ingham is the third last event before the 2010 PBR National Finals in Tamworth and series leader and reigning champion David Kennedy has had to withdraw from Ingham due to personal reasons.
Although Kennedy leads the standings by an 850-point margin, his withdrawal leaves the door wide open for the challenging pack to make up valuable ground. The winner of the Toyo Tires PBR Challenger Series Ingham will pick up approximately 500 points, moving themselves within striking distance of the champ.
Heading up this pack of four cowboys hot on the tail of David Kennedy is New South Wales teenager Troy Wilkinson from Upper Horton in the New England region. Wilkinson has been one of the most consistent performers in the PBR Challenger Series this year and is keen for a crack at his first national title.
Fellow New England rider Chris Lowe from Uralla, NSW is the next cab off the rank. Currently holding down third spot on the PBR ladder, Lowe took bronze in Condobolin last Saturday night and will be looking for a big finish this weekend. A rider with immense natural talent, Lowe has the ability to ride any bull in the Ingham pen, so look out for a spectacular effort from him in the championship round.
The other two bull riders in the 2010 title race are Queenslanders Jim Rowsell from Goondiwindi and Craig Postle from Mundubbera. Both riders will hit Ingham in fine form and hungry for a win.
Postle is having the most consistent season of his PBR career, while Rowsell has returned home from the US to ride the final three season events in an effort to take out his first ever PBR Australia title.
The Ingham Showgrounds gates open at 4.00pm, with bull riding from 7.00pm. Topping off the atmosphere of this PBR extravaganza is Anthony Taylor’s Band who will continue the entertainment through to 1am. Tickets can be purchased from Duffy Bros and JK’s Delicatessen, both situated in Lannercost Street, Ingham.
With Australia’s rankest bulls, finest bull riders and the edge-of-your-seat excitement of a PBR show, the Toyo Tires PBR Challenger Series Ingham is one bull ride not to be missed. This is not a rodeo – this is the one and only PBR!

Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) was founded in 1992 by 20 accomplished bull riders who decided to develop bull riding – the most popular event in traditional rodeo – into a stand-alone sport. Today more than 1,200 bull riders hold PBR memberships and compete in more than 300 PBR sanctioned competitions around the globe for a total prize pool exceeding US$13 million.
In November 2005, PBR announced their plans for worldwide expansion. Since then, PBR has opened offices in Canada, Mexico, Australia and Brazil and is rolling out major live events in key cities in each of these countries.
PBR Australia was established a partnership between the PBR and Dainty Consolidated Entertainment (one of Australia’s major concert promoters) and immediately set about staging major bull riding events in key cities in Australia and New Zealand – kicking off with the inaugural PBR World Cup on the Gold Coast in 2007.
Due to the high demand for more bull riding across Australia, PBR has now established the PBR Challenger Series as a feeder into the Australian premier league of bull riding – the Bundaberg Rum PBR Touring Pro. Prize money won at these events will allow riders to qualify for PBR Cup Events in Australia, and to the annual PBR World Finals in Las Vegas. So the Professional Bull Riders offer a genuine pathway for Australian bull riders to earn substantial prize money in Australia and to compete on the world stage.
