Massive NSW Posse Rides Into Hughenden PBR
A massive contingent of 16 New South Welshmen will ride into Hughenden next Saturday night (September 4), intent on taking home the $10,000 prize money up for grabs at the Professional Bull Riders Challenger Series Hughenden.
Hughenden Racecourse is the venue for round seven of the 2010 PBR Challengers Series, where these 16 flint-hard New South Wales cowboys will take on a battalion of boot-leathertough Queenslanders in the battle against and a pen of the nation’s nastiest bucking bulls.
2009 PBR Australia Champion David Kennedy from Kyogle, NSW leads the blues in this titanic battle of man vs beast. Twenty-five-year-old Kennedy heads the 2010 PBR Australia season standings by a mere 200 points from Queenslander Jim Rowsell. With Rowsell currently competing in the USA Kennedy will endeavour to take this opportunity to extend his lead as we move toward the PBR Australia National Finals.
Troy Wilkinson from Upper Horton, NSW is another strong competitor from the blues camp. Nineteen-year-old Wilkinson started 2010 in blistering form but has failed to finish atop the podium in recent months. He’s looking for a strong showing in Hughenden to regain confidence as we move into the business end of the season.
Leading the Maroon charge is Mundubbera’s Craig Postle. Currently placed at number six on the PBR Australia standings, the elder of the two bull-riding Postle brothers is having a standout season on the Professional Bull Riders circuit. With five top ten finishes already under his belt for 2010, this could be the year that a Postle finally puts his name on the PBR Australia championship buckle. First however, twenty-six-year-old Craig has his sights set on taking home a substantial chunk of Hughenden’s $10,000 purse.
Charters Towers veteran bull rider Jock Connolly will also add his grit, determination and experience to the local cause in Hughenden. Thirty-three-year-old Connolly is one of the oldest riders on the PBR Australia circuit but age has not wearied this battle-hardened warrior. Connolly sits in seventh place on the PBR Australia standings with four 2010 top ten finishes to his name.
Before any of these cowboys can contemplate victory in Hughenden, however, they must first overcome a first-rate pen of truly rank bovines. Local stock contractor and former bull riding star, Darren Brandenburg from Richmond, Queensland, is bringing a quality truckload of bulls to Hughenden, lead by an angry beast called No Apologies. With an average bull score of 45 in the 2010 PBR season, No Apologies will either blast the rider from his back or provide a possible 90-point score for any man who can go the eight second journey. Either way, it’s hi-octane entertainment for the bull riding fans of Hughenden!
On subject of hi-octane animals, Victorian bull Matrix has travelled more than 2000km from Lurg Victoria to show off his wares in Hughenden. Owned by legendary Victorian stock contractor Garry McPhee, Matrix is a dynamic powerhouse who has shattered the hopes of cowboys the length and breadth of Australia.
Spectators at the Hughenden Racecourse will also be treated to a championship round appearance by 2009 PBR Champion Bucking Bull, Wild Thing. A big, athletic beast who puts in a supreme effort every time the chute gate opens, Wild Thing dominated all comers in 2009 on his way to PBR glory. With one qualified ride from six trips in 2010 and an average bull score of 45.5 Wild Thing is guaranteed to provide his own brand of bovine fireworks in Hughenden.
With all the thrills, spills and bovine busting skills wrapped up in the rock ‘n’ roll atmosphere of a PBR event, the Professional Bull Riders Challenger Series Hughenden is one bull ride not to miss!
