HERVEY BAY PBR CHALLENGER SERIES AND FREESTYLE BIKE SPECTACULAR
HERVEY BAY, QLD
Hervey Bay Hosts Toughest Sport On Dirt!
The toughest sport on dirt, the exhilarating world of professional bull riding, makes its debut in the thriving Queensland Fraser Coast town of Hervey on Saturday, July 24 with round six of the 2010 Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Challenger Series.
Titled the Hervey Bay PBR Challenger Series and Freestyle Bike Spectacular, this unique event will combine the raw power and rock ‘n’ roll atmosphere of a PBR event with the thrills, spills and acrobatic skills of freestyle motocross.
Hervey Bay’s Sea Front Oval will shake to its foundations as a pen of Queensland’s finest bulls buck, twist and spin in a brutal effort to rid themselves of the wiry young cowboys on their backs. Over the course of three hours of no-holds-barred exhilaration, forty of the Australia’s top young athletes will pit their skills against the nation’s nastiest bovines for a piece of the cash bounty and bragging rights as the inaugural PBR Hervey Bay champion.
Teen sensation Troy Wilkinson from Upper Horton, NSW heads the star-studded line up of cowboys from across the nation. Wilkinson arrives in Hervey Bay the number three man on the PBR Australia standings and will lead the charge in the absence of numbers one and two, Jim Rowsell and David Kennedy, who have flown to the US to compete.
At nineteen years of age, the diminutive and quietly spoken Wilkinson possesses bravery, skill and determination well beyond his years. Throughout the 2009 and 2010 seasons Wilkinson has notched up a swag of top ten finishes and proven himself amongst world-class competition.
Representing the Wide Bay/Burnett region will be the Postle brothers, Matt and Craig, from Mundubbera. Matt Postle currently sits at number six in the PBR Australia standings, with older brother Craig at number ten. Matt Postle comes into Hervey Bay in smokin’ hot form, having taken second place against a field of the world’s top bull riders at last month’s 2010 PBR Troy Dunn International in Townsville.
Standing between these cowboys and a slice of the $5,000 prize money is a pen of the rankest bulls Queensland can muster. The leader of the pack is a massive beast called Hollywood Boulevard, owned by Cooyar stock contractor and event producer Paul Barron. Hollywood Boulevard has been one of the form bulls of the past couple of years on the PBR circuit and last month provided two spectacular rides in the 2010 PBR Troy Dunn International.
Hervey Bay fans will be treated to at least 50 rides on the night, with each cowboy attempting one bull in the long round, and the top ten scorers returning for a second attempt in the championship round. In addition to the bull riding action, fans will be treated to daredevil feats of motocross action. Four top Aussie motocross freestylers will bust out their deathdefying moves both before the bull ride and during intermission.
“We’re really looking forward to showing the people of Hervey Bay what a top flight bull riding show is all about,” Dunn enthused. ”This is the toughest and most exciting discipline of traditional rodeo presented with rock music and a ton of atmosphere. You may have been to other bull rides, but the PBR takes the excitement factor to another level!”
With Australia’s rankest beasts, toughest sportsmen and the edge-of-your-seat excitement of a Professional Bull Riders event, the Hervey Bay PBR Challenger Series and Freestyle Bike Spectacular is one bull-ride not to be missed. This is the real deal - the one and only PBR.
